Ok, so I got just AC to load up fine in vmware, but as soon as I introduce decal into the equation, the screen goes black, except the decal bar. Anyone have any suggestions?

I believe that's a old problem before VMware came into the picture. As I understand .. you got a "black" screen in AC? (and not that your VM interface that goes black).

Have you look at the old post in the decal forum for the black screens?
(I'm drawing a blank at the moment, I know I'v heard this before.)

I've looked, but haven't seen anything. I can perform functions while I'm in game under vmware, but the screen is black. sad I've tried increasing the memory for the vm, but that didn't work. It works fine if I don't have decal running. I'm stumped.

here's the export:

Try reducing desktop and game resolution to 800x600. Load Decal without any plugins, not even DHS or anything.

btw, are you running windowed or full screen? try both.

Its only a possibility, but VMW may have a hard time dealing with emulation + the extra video memory required by Decal.

Also, whats your native OS and config?

My native os/config is Vista Ultimate 64, on a quad 6600 with 8GB ram. I will try the 800x600 later today.

Ok.. I just tried 800x600 with everything disabled (including DHS) and still same thing.

I'm having the same issue. Since Windows 7 is no go with Decal, I was really hoping it work in VMWare, but I guess I'm out of luck on both fronts.

It probably has something to do with directX under VM instances. i don't know the differences from free version or the player version ect...

Found this http://blogs.vmware.com/teamfusion/2008/05/more-displays-m.html something about running directX. Also might have to do with how much video memory you let your VM have...

just some ideas

Unfortunately that's different than vmware workstation. VMWare Workstation 6.5 introduced the ability to do directx 9.0c, which is what decal requires. I installed it, along with all of the updates up to last month, and it still didn't work. That was with the original build of 6.5. I just reformatted my pc, and have to download the latest version of vmware, so maybe it'll work with that. I'll probably give it a try this weekend. I need to get my workstations back up and running anyhow, since I'm doing some work on dereth.info and need my test bed. happy

IIRC, it works in fusion. Not sure about workstation.

Yes, on the Mac side of things, I believe I have Decal working in Fusion, but I have yet to get it to install in Crossover.
