I've never had a flu shot. I've avoided most vaccinations due to an allergy. In one winter I got chickenpox AND measles. Was a fun time.

Vaccinations are free here, wife is considering getting it for her and kiddo. Kiddo has barely even had a cold though so I'm not sure he's at much risk. (Plus he's not in a daycare which helps a ton.)

I've never bothered with one myself, but now with Gabi in preschool... I may consider it. I will ask the doc what she thinks when I take the little one in for her vacc. Sofia is due for her chickenpox vaccine in a few weeks, YAYYY!! So glad she and her sister will never have to go through the itching, the oatmeal baths, the pure misery that was chickenpox for me and my siblings!!

I've never gotten one, neither has my son or husband. Apparently we don't get the flu, we just get e-coli from Taco Bueno salsa.

I can still remember one year of flu when I was a kid. My mom always got the flocked trees and did everything up. Not that year. We had a green tree and maybe a few bulbs on it.

The whole family had the flu. 4 of us. Christmas morning everyone went downstairs around the tree to look at gifts that mostly weren't wrapped. We thanked each other and went back to our respective beds. Lol!

Yes! Last year we skipped it and my daughter ended up in the hospital with the flu.

Zoe gets one every year. I should get one this year too since I'm pregnant, but I probably won't. I've never had the shot and the last time I had the flu was when I was 12 or so.

Nope, no flu shot here. If it works on you, it only keeps you from getting a cold (influenza/nasal crap). If it worked on the other flu (stomach/please kill me crap) then I would definitely give it a whirl.

And as for that commercial for the disease that is passed via kissing? That's a very old, not so common, one that I am sure you've heard of before but they try to sound scary and use it's full name. It's just bacterial meningitis - which really isn't that common but seems to flare up once in a while and is SUPER contagious. And yes, it's fatal if not treated right away. (Learned ALLLLL about that disease last year. The bacterial and viral type... woman got bacterial, her son's half-brother got viral.. don't ask me how! It was going around something fierce here.)

Nope. I have never, nor will I ever, get a flu shot. They cover the top 3 strains of that year and that's it. Not worth it to me.

Everyone in the family did when my sister was in chemo for breast cancer. She got a shot too.

I think the biggest problem is that people think of the "flu" as those stomach viruses. It's not. It's a very bad respiratory infection. My daughter has had it twice. Both times she ran over 103 degree fever for 6 to 8 days. In order to keep the fever down we had to give Motrin every 6 hours and Tylenol every 4 hours along with the Tamiflu. That only kept the fever down to 103-104 range. It would go higher if we were late with any dose.

I know a lot of people who think the flu shot doesn't work because they get a virus. But, it's that week long influenza that is what it helps protect from. Luckily, I get a flu shot every year so I was able to take care of her and I didn't get it (although the shot isn't guaranteed to protect from all strains). She didn't get one this year because we couldn't afford it but she will be getting one every year from now on. I definitely want to take all precautions I can so she doesn't have to go through that again. sad

Got mine this year again when I had my surgery and got the pneumonia one as well since I got walking pneumonia last year.

Kids didn't get theirs last year because many places around here were out or their times were all goofy (like 10-2). Got lucky though and neither of them was ever sick with much of anything. I think an ear infection in the little one once. I will probably get them their shots this year though, don't want to tempt fate too much.

I normally do not get the flu shot, nor does my hubby and we never wanted to get the kids done either....however yesterday at the doctors we got them done on the doctor's advice. He was concerned that Bruce had managed to catch his sister's cold the month before and mentioned that he had several reports of sick babies. I know it is possible for breastfed babies to get sick but they are not supposed to right?
So me, the hubby and Selyna got the shots yesterday. Selyna is fine, hubby is tired and I am alternatly freezing and sweating >.<
And everytime I get up to do anything I feel so lightheaded it's like I'm hig or something.
Man it was a long night for me and will be a long day too sad

Next time I am saying no!

Breastfed babies can and do get sick, even though they receive antibodies through the breastmilk.
