Subject: Help with Decal?
Hey.....old AC addict trying to come back after an 8 year absence.....remembering how great Decal was when it came out.....

Just downloaded and installed Decal Alpha 8:2.9.6.0....it seems to load into the game when I enter the world, but as soon as I try to interact with it, ACClient crashes.

Any ideas? Help? Suggestions? Thanks in advance and would love to hear any MAJOR things I missed out on in the last 8 years. I'm sure there's a bunch, but I'm having fun relearning alot as a "newbie."

Post an export.

It is the button labeled as "Export" in the main Decal Agent (outside of game)

<mythbusters>Well there's yer problem!</mythbusters>

AC has changed but your Computer hasn't!

You're running with 32MB of Video Memory. AC itself requires AT LEAST that much. That doesn't count what the Video Memory Hog of the current version of Decal requires. In addition to that, it seems you were at some point trying to use LifeTank which is even MORE of a Video Memory Hog (it's REALLY bad in terms of resource usage).

So.... yeah.. you can't really run Decal on that computer

LOL....ironically, I'm glad that's the problem....because it explains plenty of others!

You hit the nail on the head. I used to play 8 years ago on this exact computer. It's actually not a bad computer, it does what I need it to do. And the old AC ran just fine on it. But since logging into this new one, I've wondered why my computer video gets all "sticky" every time I go through a portal!

Well, at least I can still play the game. Damn.....I knew I was due for a computer upgrade. Now AC gives me a reason! Just gotta start saving!

Thanks.

By the way, any idea if a simple video memory add-on is possible, or affordable, or even worth it? Don't know if my wife will approve buying a brand new computer just so my game runs better! happy

you have to upgrade the Video Card at minimum.

Unfortunately the age of your computer REALLY hinders which cards you can use (and the price).

The new things these days are PCI Express which I'm almost certain your Motherboard doesn't support. So in order to get a PCI Express Video card, you'd need a new Motherboard. Which would most likely require a new CPU and RAM. *shrug*

Check around your local computer repair shops. They probably have an old 128 mb AGP card that they will sell you for 5 bucks ( or give it to you for free).

Yeah... I should have clarified...

If your PC has AGP slots, you could pick up an AGP card... I just don't see the point in "wasting" money on an AGP card these days. They're out-dated, and all you'd be doing is giving yourself a VERY temporary upgrade. It isn't going to last much longer anyway, so I don't personally see the point.

I saw on a different board a while ago that someone built 2 complete gaming rigs (pretty decent ones) for around $2000. That's about $1000 per rig, and his rigs were pretty high-end to prevent the need to upgrade anytime soon. I'm sure you could get something pretty decent for considerably less in addition to the fact that depending on what you have already, there may not be need to upgrade everything.
