Anyone willing to do up a quick plugin? Something that would display a HUD to tell you how long till morning or how long you have until evening (for Grave Rat kill task).

hmmm....

I don't hunt there, and doubt anyone on my server(DT) even pays attention to day/night stuff.
So... I am pretty clueless to the changes in time and what they mean, even after 8 years.

I've never even looked to see if server time is avaliable information from Decal

Unless you already know the event and can share, which is not publicly docuemnted, I doubt i want to sit still that long, wait for a time change, and then sort through debug messages to find such a small thing happy

There is no event for this. I can only assume that the client gets told at some point what the server time is, possibly even before you try to log in a character, and updates itself from then on.

Strictly speaking you could base it purely on the PC's own clock, but it wouldn't be 100% reliable doing this, if the user's clock is slightly fast or slow.

One thing that seemed possible to me is that it sends you an offset based on your character age. After all, the game is constantly sending you updates on your age...

Maybe that would be too smart.

No, age is bugged. Your age only gains about 53-54 minutes for every hour of real time. I've raised this with Turbine, but it's probably extremely low priority. Either way, it can't be used for keeping an accurate clock.

It's likely that the client gets sent an offset when you first log in, before you've even tried to enter the world, and keeps time from there. There's certainly nothing in either the login info, or anything sent when the time of day changes.

Yeah, and the ingame clock is 13-14 minutes per half-cycle. I bet it is supposed to be 2 full time of day cycles per hour, or one change every 15 minutes.

Yeah, I checked when times change and didn't see anything. And, after I posted that, I found that the time panel is accurate before the login packet is received. Anyway, the timebase has to be more accurate than once every half-cycle, since the sun has to move across the sky.

I'm not really sure that the listing on jackcat is correct.. as it can be dawnsong multiple times in one day. I'll try to do some tracking to see what times it changes.

Each half-period is slightly less than 14 minutes as I mentioned before. I think those 'times' are just what time it is supposed to be in-game happy

Those times are the "equivalent" times for us. Not matching to our current Time of day.

http://ac.turbine.com/index.php?page_id=192

And according to Gouru in this post ( http://forums.ac.turbine.com/showthread.php?p=366774&highlight=graveyard+night#post366774 ), each half cycle is ~8 minutes. (the estimate we use while hunting there, and it is accurate)
