Subject: Decal, newly built comp, black screen
I built a new computer. Here are the specs.

CPU: Athlon x2 5000+ 2.6 GHZ
memory: 3 GB
video: Radeon HD 3870 x2
sound: Realtek HD integrated

AC works perfectly without Decal. If I turn on Decal, I can make it to the character selection, but all the animations up to that point are very slow. If I try to log a character into the game, I can see the interface, but the 3D area is just black. I then press alt-F4 to quit the game, and I can see the 3D area for a split second as the client quits.

I played with it, and I was actually able to get everything working ok if I have AC in windowed mode. The problem arises if I go into a place with lots of flashy effects. The game gets very choppy to the point of being unplayable.

Any suggestions or help would be most appreciated. Kinda sad that a new computer with everything freshly installed would have this problem. Here is my decal export.

This probably has nothing to do with it, but how many watts is your power supply. I remember reading about this card recently and there were some concerns about how much power it would use.

Do you have the drivers to support the dual core nature of the cpu?

Sad but true MS made it hard to do.
I built a machine for someone and needed to get the fix so EQ would run properly.

snagged form a thread over on TD

My power supply has 650 watts. It should be enough because I haven't had any problems with much newer games. And again, AC works fine without decal.

I think it is more likely the new ATI video drivers. Is anyone else running decal with the 8.1 or 8.2 ATI drivers?

I don't have the same video card, but I am running the same catalyst version and driver without any problems.

Catalyst® Version 08.1
Direct3D Version 6.14.10.0555
2D Driver Version 6.14.10.6764

The only thing I see different from my decal export and yours is the lines below. I'm not sure what yours means. You have alternate method for some reason.

Decal Settings
: Timer (Default)
[Portal Path] : C:\Program Files\Turbine\Asheron's Call - Throne of Destiny\

I was playing with the other injection method. It didn't help to change it. Also, my game is installed in a different directory from yours. I don't see how that could affect anything. Decal is also installed to a directory other than the default.

I recently installed Bioshock, and have been playing it. It runs perfectly. I could really use some more suggestions.

And the dual core driver?
