In addition to the theories given in the article, I have my own...
I'm not a huge Radiohead fan - I like them, but not enough to get their new album regardless of price, even free - but I did check out their web site and the process involved to buy it. Their whole setup for making payment is cheesy and a pain in the butt. You have to go to another web site to convert currency, then register with Radiohead's web site to even make the payment which is where I stopped while checking it out to write this post. Additionally, up to that point anyway, the site isn't secure. So, IMO, whoever set up the method to buy the download could have done a much better job and the result is that maybe people who might have otherwise gone through their web site to buy it decided that it was too much of a hassle.
