I think that that may be Directx? I caught that myself, but not sure what it means.

I have Vista, which automatically comes with Directx 9.0c?

Am I correct? Or should I try to download directx, which gave me problems before.

You probably need to get the DirectX 9.0c Runtimes. If you can't find those, perhaps installing the SDK would be enough.

I'm not exactly sure one way or the other, but I know that the d3dx9_30.dll and related files are required.

I gave you all the information you need to attempt to search for a solution.

DirectX 9.0c Runtime or DirectX 9.0c SDK. I'd attempt the Runtime first... if it works.

Google. Go.

When I attempt to install this I get this error:

An internal system error ocurrded.

Please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your Windows folder to determine problem.

I can't see anything...

For Decal:

Do a complete re-install. Remove all plugins and decal + folders and use cleanreg.exe /decalutil to completely remove it. Then install over again AFTER directx is running properly.

For DirectX:

First, download the new DX installer (Redistributable)

Open your registry editor.
Start/Run type : regedit

Hit OK.

Goto edit/search in Registry editor. Type: 4.09.0.0904

You should end up in this key. (Follow it downwards.)

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectX]
"InstalledVersion"=hex:00,00,00,09,00,00,00,00
"Version"="4.09.00.0904"

Change the 4.09.00.0904 to 4.09.00.0902 Restart Windows XP. Don't start anything game/direct x related.

Then do a re-install of directx from the full installer. This should work. However if it doesn't... You can try

Lil-Blub, please don't post hacks on here without fully understanding the situation.

Your directions talk about "Restarting XP", but we're clearly not running in a Windows XP environment, and you'r elikely to make things WORSE on this users system, than better.

Sopher, please don't use any weird "hacks" to get it to work. It works on other systems with Vista without hacking things in the registry. I'm sure it can work on yours with the appropriate setup.

Sopher:

There are 2 things I notice with your export that strike me as possible issues.

1: your Protected Storage Service is marked as "Manual". I'm not sure what Windows Vista has in this instance, but it might be a wise idea to go to your Services manager (this is services.msc in XP.. not sure what it is in Vista) and make sure that the "Protected Storage" Service is set to Automatic, and is running.

2: Change the Decal options for the Injection Method to be the default, NOT optional. Currently, you have it set to the CBT Hook which is the alternate injection method.

Also.. be sure you're running Decal with elevated privileges. This means that you might need to right-click the DenAgent.exe and "Run As" an administrator.

I don't have Vista, so I don't know the exact procedures to get it to work, but those are some things that stick out at me. Perhaps one of the more vista knowledgeable users can assist you a little more in making sure that Decal is actually set up to run correctly. Perhaps they can compare their own export with yours and see where the conflict could be.

Draiker, I am going to follow you around to every post you post ...and discourage your fixes.

You did not respond with a "helpful" answer to this person UNTIL I posted something.

Quit being a troll. I don't have to pay you to post on these forums. THAT FIX is not a hack. Would you like official documentation from Microsoft showing how that can fix alot of direct x issues? I GOT that so called "HACK" from Microsoft.

So if you got a problem, go and bitch at Microsoft.

First off... I was posting helpful information to this post before you got around here, so don't try to say I wasn't helping until you posted.

Secondly, asking users to go into the registry and do anything is a LAST resort for most users. I called it a hack, because it is a workaround that involves modifying some fairly complex things for inexperienced users. Based on the previous posts by this user, I don't feel comfortable asking them to go into the registry and modify things in there. Then again, I've also been involved extensively in technical support operations.

I don't care where you got the information from. It is NOT valid or appropriate for this post.

Edit:
Either way, this user has Windows Vista which comes with DirectX 10. Asking them to modify their DirectX install to install DirectX 9 or to Uninstall DirectX is a BAD IDEA regardless of how you look at it. You need to understand your user and their environment before you go about asking them to do irrelevant things which could possibly damage their install and hose their machine.
