Subject: Need new speakers...
OK here is the deal. I bought a Pioneer Elite (VSX-1016TXV) a while ago and just recycled the cheap speakers that came with my old entertainment center. Sounds decent enough but way under performs for what the system is capable of. Well now I've got the money to upgrade and I don't know jack about speakers beyond how to mount and place them, lol.

Anyway, I was looking at these Bose® Acoustimass® 10 Series IV Speakers. The reviews seem good and the articles/comments on the web I've seen for them seem to be mostly positive. The other upside is they are available all over town (CompUSA, BestBuy, Circuit City, etc) so no problem getting them right now.

I've already got mounts up and wires run for the back speakers so can probably just mount the new ones there then was going to mount the front ones or get stands so they don't waste space on my shelves, that and I should be able to get better placement that way.

How do these speakers look performance wise and how will they perform on the receiver I'm using?
Any other suggestions for speakers with this receiver?
Any other ideas as far as mounting vs stands or placement on speakers?

Thanks in advance!

No highs, no lows, it must be bose!

Thats what we used to say when I was in pro audio sales. bose might be nice for smaller home setups though, never tried it.. but most of their pro-speaker stuff is crap

edit: I personally use M-Audio bx8a's, which work wonderful. $499 for the pair... although they are technically studio monitors, it still doubles for normal computer speakers. I sometimes even use them to DJ smaller house parties.. they can crank out alot of bass.

Ended up getting them and they sound awesome. I'm not covering a huge area which might be why but the surround setup sounds very nice.

yay for speaker happiness. i'm still using using an old ass pair of Optimus towers, 15" woofer, 5" mid and a 3x7 horn tweeter. 150 watt and they still sound good despite being about 10 years old

Haha yeah no kidding. I got the Pioneer Elite over a year ago and at the time couldn't afford speakers to go with it so used my old RCA speakers from the all in one system I had before. You know the ones were you pay like 150 bucks and get a radio with cd/dvd player and stuff built in and a set of pressboard box speakers, lol. I knew they were bad but, holy hell, after I hooked up the new speakers I was pretty sure I died and went to heaven.
