Subject: ACDualClient Problem(s)...
Downloaded and installed Dual Client tonight, and it crashed during the setup portion (seemed to install without an issue). After several attempts to set it up and it crashing, I edited the ini file. By turning off polling, I'm able to get into the advanced setup, without it crashing...the problem I run into is that it will allow me to log in with a single account, but cannot log into a second account.

I also don't have Decal showing up at all with the account. (If I don't use DualClient, it works fine, and it still shows in the tray at the bottom, but with DualClient, it doesn't work).

Any help is greatly appreciated. happy

Okay, reinstalled, and got decal working okay with dual client. Still cannot get the second account to start though. I wonder if it has to do with polling, and if so, why does:

1) Why can't I enable it?
2) Dual Client have an option to turn it off if you need it?

Thanks again.

1) Dunno. What is the error when you try to enable it? You never provided any of the error information which makes it hard to figure out what is going wrong.

2) Dual Client wasn't always used for strictly dual logging. It can also be used as a way to quickly log into the game and storing your username/password combination. It also can log in a character directly. Back in the old days, it used to tweak video options. It has options do enable and disable everything because it is flexible like that. Disabling that stuff can cause Dual Logging to not work.... unless you click the Find Path button manually. That basically triggers a single poll of the system.chances are, if polling doesn't work, neither does the Find Path button.

Give me something to work with though. Give me some error messages and/or the last few entries in your errors.txt file in the ACDualClient folder.

Ah, okay, makes more sense now, thanks. happy

As for the error, there actually isn't an error message. DualClient itself completely freezes up (half draws the client software, and then freezes (ie. the form itself draws, and it draws a few of the controls, such as a textbox or a command button, but most of the areas where the controls are supposed to be are white.) When you click on the program it says that there is no reponse, and of course, forcing it closed, it wants to send an error report to Microsoft.

Unfortunately, I'm at work right now, so I don't have access to any of the log files, but will post those when I get home tonight. I also did a search for the "lodctr", and did all the stuff to correct that, just in case that was the problem, but no luck with that.

I was able to get it to dual log one time. I had the polling option turned off before I loaded DualClient, and after it was loaded, I checked the box. Then I logged into the first client, no problem. Logged into the second client, no problem. I thought at that point, I had it resolved, but when I logged out of both, closed DualClient, and tried to go back in, same issue, it freezes while it's trying to display the options form (the one with the 4 tabs).

Thanks again for any help you can provide, and I'll post the log files tonight when I get home.

Okay, just checked in both the ACDualClient directory, and the Asheron's Call directories', and neither contain an error log (error.txt) at all.

I could post a picture of what it looks like when it freezes up, but I don't know how much that would be able to help you diagnose the problem I'm running into. If you feel it will help, let me know, and I'll be glad to post a pic up.

Perhaps leave polling off and just click the Find Path button before logging in each account.

I'm not exactly sure what would cause the lockup considering the polling is happening in a separate thread from the UI, so it shouldn't be noticeable unless it's crashing/locking before it gets into the thread (which is unlikely, but possible).

If there are no error.txt files, then it is because they aren't being generated which means there are no exceptions or error messages being thrown.

I don't know what to tell you.. perhaps you should go to the Path Options, click Clear Paths, then close and re-install ACDualClient. See if going through the setup completely again helps anything (including the copy files and all that stuff)

It is worth a try if you care enough about getting it working with polling.

Sorry it took so long to get back. Yes, leaving the Polling off, and using the "Find Path" idea works great. I'll try the other idea you suggested, about Clearing the paths and reinstalling, and seeing if that works. If it doesn't at least there is a work around for now.

Thanks for your help Drakier. Will post the results of reinstalling when I get around to that, just so you have it for future reference as well. happy

Cool.

The thing that I don't quite understand is why the Find Path works, but the Polling does not.

That problem suggests there is something wrong with your timer, which seems very very odd.

If you start ACDualClient with the polling off, then turn on Polling after launching it, does it still lock up? Or does it only lock up if polling is on when you start it?

Starting it with polling off, and then turning it on when I'm in DC, no crash.

Starting it with polling on, it crashes.

So, I modified the ini file, and went overboard (since the max timer is 10 seconds, and I tried that with no luck) and set the timer to 2000 (thinking that maybe, by some chance it might be 2000 milliseconds, rather than seconds, just in case), and even set at that, it still crashes.

Don't get me wrong, I'm quite happy that it works with finding paths, but I'll continue to help debug this with you if you want to, so that you can use me as a test case with this one, hehe. happy

I program as well, and I know how hard it can be to reproduce an error that someone else is getting, but you can't get it yourself (ashame also that it's not Virtual PC, that would make it very easy to send you the file so you could see and play with it that way).
