Are there really Envoys????

I've been playing AC since the year 1999 and in all that time I have never seen an Envoy except during an announced special event. Yet on these boards I often read about people being 'Checked' by an Envoy. Apparently, some people who UCM use macros to detect and log out on Envoys.
Do they really exist?? Or, have I just been lucky (or unlucky) enough to have never been checked by one?
I hear they 'Freeze' your toon and ask you questions. Always wondered what that would be like.
Has anyone been personally checked by an Envoy? Or are you like me -- just read or heard about someone else being checked??

Nope, you get banned if you log out when an Envoy comes by.

Yes they put you in 'limbo' where you cannot attack or attack, and you are removed from global chat channels, they they ask you to respond. after you respond they ask you to jump. then they say ok you passed have a nice night, and take you out of limbo.

I've been checked many times, one of my chars names is Unattended Combat Macro, so random people report me all the time (harrassment) and I get UCM tested. I was even UCM tested while PKing in pklarena, envoy would have banned me if I didn't respond

At least now I know it's not just some rumor that's been around forever. Funny I've played all this time & never seen one. Guess I don't do anything that resembles UCM.

Then there's the guy who got booted out of a fellow for leaching.... and promptly called the +Envoys and reported everyone in fellow for UCM.

Yeah, I was watching a duel one day and one of the guys got put into limbo and given the UCM test. Not a single mob on radar, not a single corpse in the area, but someone had reported him and the envoys couldnt even be bothered checking if he was hunting or not before testing.
