What's the best way to clean mildew out of the grout in your shower? No one ever taught me this important skill! I tried using oxiclean tonight, but it didn't do that great of a job.

Ironically I just did this last Sunday.

I use X-14 and a grout scrub brush. I spray the X-14, walk away and let it work a bit, come back scrub the grout a little and rinse.

It looks bad sometimes when it's still wet but it dries nice and bright and clean. The smell is harsh, but I love the way a bathroom smells after a good cleaning with bleach.

I agree, get something with bleach in it. Walk away for a while, come back and it'll come off easy. I use Clorox spray stuff, big jug from Costco. I also spray it onto the shower curtain and it takes off any mildew with no scrubbing at all.

I love bleach. And yes, I think I will marry it.

Also, with the grout scrub brush, I'm finding it made a HUGE difference with how hard I have to scrub. For the longest time I just used a sponge with the green scrubby side and I had to do some pretty hard pressing with it.

Then I discovered a grout scrub brush and man, does it work tons easier than just the sponge.

Now they need to make a product that can kill mildew AND remove soap scum, I can only find one that does one or the other, so I almost have to clean my shower twice. frustrated

I have had some really tough times with mildew in showers. It was dirty when I moved in.

My advice is that if you ever get it clean, then get some grout sealer and seal the grout so that it's not such a pain to clean next time.

We used the Shark Steam Cleaner when we moved out/in to clean the bathrooms.

we used to use a product called "edfred" (seriously) and it worked on really messed up, neglected rental-house bathrooms

I found a really simple way to clean glass shower doors if that's helpful at all - mix equal parts dish soap (not the kind meant for dishwashers, but the kind you'd keep around the sink for hand washing dishes) and baking soda. Using a regular kitchen scrubby pad (I know 3M makes blue ones that are meant for teflon pans so that you don't scratch them up) slop some of the goo on the doors and scrub away. Once you've got it all worked on the doors just rinse it off, the doors will look like they were installed yesterday - or at least last week, depending on age. wink
