Subject: Location database / Dereth Explorer
So,

I was cleaning out my hard drive yesterday and came across a large directory of code labeled 'Dereth Explorer'. It's been over a year since version 0.3 was released and although 0.4 was pretty much complete (90% complete), but it was never released. I'm currently considering to do so anyway, better late than never. happy

I have a small question though: after AC Spedia went MIA, was there ever a new atlas site created? Or is the CoD database currently the only up-to-date and publicly available resource? DE uses both databases, but my last AC Spedia version is out of date and is missing a lot of new locations. If there's another database I would be happy to embed it into Dereth Explorer, if possible.

Anyway, below is a list of changes of version 0.4. If the new version is released, these features will all be in it. Mostly minor fixes and improvements, the only big new feature is the addition of monster information. Using a Decal plugin, monster locations and statistics (health, strength, etc) are collected and a central server. The resulting data is publicly available as a binary file for use in 3th party tools, such as Decal plugins. Dereth Explorer uses this data to draw monsters on the map and provide information on them.

Unfinished monster website: http://www.direlands.net/Monsters/Default.aspx (will contain file format, Decal plugin, data export features etc. when the site it complete.)

Approximate 0.4.0.0 changelog:

* Bugfixes for AC Spedia locations, causing the exit portal to be incorrect in a number of occasions.
* Added keyboard shortcuts to move the map (default WASD).
* When zooming in, icons will be bigger when at a specific zoom level. This feature is optional, the level at which the icons get bigger can be set.
* Added keyboard shortcut to zoom the map (Q and E by default).
* Updater (optionally) returns to DE after updating.
* Fixed bug in DServ causing problems to open server sockets for each ac client in auto mode.
* Added (optional) map movement when you get to the border of the map with your mouse.
* Added buttons to set your copy & pasted coordinates as start & end, so you can easily navigate to them.
* Added keyboard shortcut to focus the map on your mouse cursor (F by default).
* DServ can now use the AC client executable to detect the correct memlocs. This means that after a patch you can immediately update the memlocs to work with the AC client of that month. Big thanks go out to Drakier for suggesting this feature and providing the tech details needed to implement it.
* Improved the GUI for extracting maps, to make it more clear what is going on.
* Improved readability of location captions by moving them a few pixels down, avoiding that they will overlap with the icon.
* When selecting a portal, a line will be drawn to its destination to indicate where the portal leads to.
* Improved parsing of location descriptions, so it won't display ugly font and anchor tags.
* When typing something in a search field, you can press enter to start the search. You do not need to explictly click the search button.
* Slightly changed the way the mouse wheel zooms the map, will be more precise when zooming in.
* The program will remember which type of map was last used and use the same type next time the program starts.
* Adding printing of the current route.
* Added functionality to display monster spawns on the map and request additional information about monsters, including in which dungeons they occur and what level & attributes they have.
