Subject: getting Out of Memory error...
Each night, I log off, and leave my client running, at the charecter selection screen. Each morning, for the last week, I've gotten "OUT OF MEMORY: Failed to allocate 351748 bytes." Anyone have any ideas? My system has 2GB ram, and plenty of hard drive. Attached is my decal export. I'm doing this through remote desktop, so the vid card drivers aren't correct, but I do run the latest drivers from nvidia.

I had that once recently as well, after running AC for a few hours. I tend not to run it for that long most of the time though, so it's not happened since. Only plugins common to yours are Alinco, GoArrow, and Quest Timer (and of course, DHS).

Ok.. it's now happening on all three of my pc's. One pc is running Alico and Castaway only, and the other is running hwacstats and craftbot only.

"leave my client running, at the charecter selection screen"

Well I do wonder why your doing this. happy

I believe Turbine will disconnect you after a period of time if your sitting on this screen.

Turbine will disconnect your client for inactivity after a while. You can not just live your PC at the character select screen, go to bed and expect everything is connected and working correctly when you get up.

Did they just start in the last three weeks? because before that I could stay logged on, and sitting at the client screen for days.

It has been that way as long as I remember. I've been playing AC since 1999. That is why trade bots and portal bots emote, jump or turn automatically. If your client is idle long enough you will be logged out and your client disconnected. Obviously if you are on the character select screen, you are not doing anything so it is soon disconnect time.

Turbine does modify their code every month. So it is possible that the auto disconnect did work for a while or missed some people.

I understand if you're logged in, as a charecter, and you get booted out to the charecter select screen, but not sitting at the charecter select screen for four hours then getting an Out of Memory error. I do not believe this is an AC/Turbine error, but a decal/plugin error.

One prime example of this is my tinker bot. He's been logged in for three days, on a pc that has the exact same patches as my other two computers, but he's only running the craftbot plugin. Where the other clients have crashed 4 times in the last two days.

It is supposed to boot you to the character select screen. I believe it is 30 minutes,

Then after some more time back to your desktop. I meant to try this last night without Decal when I went to bed but I forgot.

My 3rd pc has no problems, and never receives that error, even after sitting at the charecter select screen for 4 days. For S&G... I started up the client, without decal, tonight. But as I said, I'm fairly sure it's a decal problem. We'll see.

7 hours, as of when I left this morning, and it had not given that error. It took a whole 2 hours to get that error yesterday. It's not happening when I'm playing, only when I sit at the charecter select screen.

1 day, 7 hours later, with no decal loaded... still sitting at the charecter select screen.

Mind if I ask why you leave AC at the char select screen and don't just quit it altogether? It's not like it takes a particularly long time to log in, especially with ACDC.

If you leave AC as the foreground window with it at the character select screen, it'll run your CPU at 100%, which wastes electricity and generates heat. In fact, I'd recommend putting your computer in standby while you sleep unless you need it on to run a background task.

If you really want to figure out what's causing the problem, it's most likely a filter (plugins don't run at the character select screen). Try disabling filters until the problem starts happening. I'd start with 3rd part filters like Alinco, ACDC, and Darkside.

I guess I'm lazy.. I usually log out when I'm done for the night, and shut off the monitor. Then when I wake up, I'll log in, kill something I'm camped at or turn in chrozite or something, take my shower, then log in and do it again.

I have been having a ton of issues when swapping charecters as of late, so I will probably end up reformatting and starting clean in the next few weeks (this weekend and next are busy for me). I'm just trying to narrow it down now. My other pc, that this is happening on, only has alinco and castaway running on it, so I'll try disabling alinco and seeing if it crashes. I know I'm running an old version of alinco anyhow.

Well.. just a heads up. On my main pc, I disabled decal completely, and the client stayed up for 2 days. I uninstalled and re-installed the latest alinco and alinco filter, and so far, my client has been up for 8 hours without getting a memory failure. On my other pc, I only disabled alinco and alinco filter, and it's been up for about 2 1/2 days, running only castaway (was running alinco for the stacking features).

Probably the same memory leak that decal seems to have if your IG for long periods of time as well.
