Subject: open a decal window, get choppiness
I have had this problem for sometime. On Sunday, I got so frustrated, I deleted my partition. I remade my partition, formatted it, installed windows, got everything in windows update, installed my platform drivers for nvidia, installed the latest driver from ATI, installed my network driver, got the latest directx end user runtime from Microsoft download center, installed AC, and finally installed Decal alpha 8. I get in-game, open the window for decal hotkey system, and I get the same damn problem. My framerate goes way down, and trees disappear. I haven't installed anything on my hard drive except what I've already mentioned. What could I have possibly messed up on?

I would have registered on the decal forum and posted this there, but I can't. It always tells me that I didn't type the letters in the picture correctly. They are so garbled, I don't see how anyone can get them right.

Here is the top section of my dxdiag information.

If it helps any, when I open any decal UI (Allinco for example) my framerate plummets too. Trees don't disappear but it definetly gets choppier. I just close the UI when I'm done setting options or whatever and no problemo.

I guess it feels good to not be alone. How long have you had the problem?

I'm surprised I'm getting the choppiness at all considering the horsepower of my video card.

It's a known problem with Decal. Has been for some time. This is why the decal devs are completely re-writing the system that displays the decal windows.

Right now, there's nothing you can do, except give preference to decal apps that display info on huds rather than windows, as huds don't slow things down as much.

Decal has been like that for me since I returned to the game a couple months ago. Its a bit annoying but not a huge deal. I'll be glad if they can fix it though. =)

yours is only when you open the window? consider yourself lucky.. I did the same as you because without decal i can run highest graphics completely smooth but when i put decal on OMG i lag so bad even on LOWEST setting... not to mention i come to a still frame motion when i open a decal window. >.< and no LTX stopped working grrr
