For those who can't search well, AC/DC is NOT Vista compatible.

I *try* to search.
I opened the search form, selected the AC Utilities board and searched for the word "Vista". I got no results, not even this one.
Obviously, I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what.
Will Dual Client ever be vista compatible? Are there any work arounds to get it installed and working?
(NOTE: I managed to get it installed by hand-installing the .NET 1.1 version {and the service pack}, but I still get messages when I try to run it. I've tried to select various compatibility mode options on the executable such as "Run as Administrator" and "Compatibility with XP Pro SP2", but none of them seem to work.)

Vista IS AC DM compatiable. I have it installed and running on two machines. Decal as well. That said, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone because there are minor issues in setting up and some graphics cards don't do well with DX9 in Vista creating some graphics glitches on some of them. My x1900xt ATI card won't render landscape textures and my 8800gtx has tearing with the sky textures occasionally. However both are very playable under Vista. Actually I have AC/DM installed on my laptop as well. make that three machines) with a 7950 go nivida graphics adapter and I have zero problems on AC with it. The funny thing is the other two machines are Vista 32 bit and my laptop is 64 bit, go figure.

^ This thread is about AC Dual Client, not AC Dark Majesty. We know AC works, but Dual client does not. AC/DC is not the same as AC/DM.
Thanks anyway. Your issues are due to Ati's vista drivers still being a mess, and I believe that 8800 support is not perfect yet either - hence the laptop being fine. I'm sure they'll get around to fixing those.

hmmm...
no one actually answered my question.
Will dualclient ever be Vista compatible or is it now an orphaned and unsupported program as are so many others?

It is not orphaned and unsupported.
I still provide plenty of support for it.
Unfortunately for you all with Vista, I do not have a Vista machine to develop and test on. So for now, Vista is unsupported.

First of all why would you buy vista in the first place. First of all remember microsofts record. How old is Windows XP and they are still fixing bugs in the software come on now. The best time to buy Vista would when the new OS comes outs. Dont be dumb and think of microsoft record. I mean they put out console system that breaks with in a year. They still are make systems that break. I think microsoft sucks but its better then MAC OS. So i'm stuck using it. Sorry i just had to rant on microsoft.

I'd use Vista if it were 100% compatible with everything I use. I prefer a lot about it.
But until then, it's sitting on its drive partition waiting to become useful.
Similar things were said about (especially) Windows 2000 and XP when they were released. Anyone still using Windows 98 raise your hand now.

Windows XP for me is a good operating system but for those who can't afford the proper hardware Vista is the way to go if you keep referring back to Vista's supposedly more optimal network stack. Unfortunately your problem lies in the populous converting over to Vista which I honestly don't see happening within the next couple of years. This is Windows XP not Vista. I highly doubt you will see the devs boot two completely different operating systems just because there is only a couple of people working on it.

Actually, I didn't think that the level of effort to make ACDC vista compatible would have been that high. Goru already has a sticky on how to make decal plugins compatible and much of the same applies to applications.
It didn't seem as if ACDC was actually all that far away from compatibility. It sometimes works now, under vista -- if the wind is from the right direction and you've eaten your wheaties. 
Of course, not having a personal platform on which to develop does add a significant level of difficulty, I will admit.

the main problem with ACDualClient (aside from registry) is that ACDC does it's own Decal Injection since they don't play nice together. I'm not sure what is required to get that operational, but my guess is it's not as simple as it was.

Is this the way that ACDC manages to make one instance of decal work with multiple different instances of the client running simultaneously?

No.. Decal does that all on it's own. The problem is that Decal doesn't like to inject until the user presses the "Next" button, but since ACDualClient doesn't press the "Next" button, then Decal doesn't get flagged of the message to do it. Since Decal cannot inject itself in these cases, I need to do the injection myself (and run the Decal startup code to make it initialized and run).
It's a bit more complicated that it seems on the surface, but regardless, it was a hack. Since Vista however, they've increased security in things like that, and I'm no longer able to do what I'm doing it seems. Therefore, I need to find a different way to inject Decal and get it loaded.. I'm just not sure how. (ForceLib doesn't seem to work too well in Vista)
