Now that Decal 2.9.6.0 is out, I'd like to announce Mobtracker.

Highlights:

Ingame 3D arrows point to mobs you want to track
Fast 'groups' toggles for Golds, Rare mobs, etc.

Mobtracker accumulates data by sending spawn into directly a central server. (No identifying information is sent, only Mob name and coords) This feature allows:

Ingame Spawn maps for hunting specific creatures (NAVI3style)
Offline spawn map viewer

Check it out at

http://mobtracker.yewsplugins.com

NOTE: Many settings can be made directly in the XML file. I havent completely finished with the HUD system yet(I want to get some suggestions and feedback ideas first), so its size and position must be set there (try 510x510 for best viewing if you run 1200x1024 or higher)

Please run it to help collect data if nothing else. Turn off the 3D arrows, HUD, groups, and empty the moblist and the plugin should have extremely small resource consumption. The bandwidth used by the map and spawn data features is so small that even dialup will not be adversely affected.

Please spread the word to other server boards. I will handle MT.

great plugin! you need to add sounds to found critters. Have that be an option. And when i click on the mob name, have it select it. I love this program

Won't install for me. Either says (No DLL) or if i try manually it says Failed to register plugin.

Edit: Tried with new version of Decal, still got (No DLL), tried manually and it installed.

Edit 2: Also shows up as Mob_Tracker.MobTracker in decal and the xml file changes to reflect that
eg. Mob Tracker.dllMobTrackerSettings.xml

Next question, how is the mob spawn information gathered. Does it just search for the mobs around you all the time and upload their positions into a database, or do I have to set it up in the xml file?

If it does it automatically by just searching around me then i'll leave it running all the time for sure.

Min,

Autoselect of mob is next up on the To Do list.
Sounds eh? OK. I'll see what I can do. You might have to edit the XML for this though.

Theriex,

Not sure why the installer wouldnt work. PM me or email me at yew@yewsplugins.com if you still have issues. I will get to work resolving them. As for data collection, it automatically picks up every spawn that the AC client is aware of, even those off-radar, and it automatically sends those via UDP to the central server. Periodically, I regen the maps which are displayed ingame and via the supplied offline viewer.

Thanks Yew!!

I tried to for a little bit prior to Decal getting upgraded and got the random crashes which you warned me ahead of time. I shall fire up the new version now. happy

Welcome back!

**Edit**

The installer mentions that it is for Decal Alpha 7, is that of any concern?

Nope. It doesnt check the version number. I will update the name and link the next time I push the web site to the server, though.

Right now, I'm just watching data come in. I got bit by the 'international decimal seperator' issue (comma instead of period =P) so I patched that up on the server side. Thats the nice thing about UDP. You dont need to worry about taking down the server or breaking client connections, cause its all stateless. Anyways, with that overly technical rambling, we now return you to your regularly scheduled programming...

happy

Is there a difference between MobTracker and MobAlert? I was playing around with MobAlert before, not MobTracker.

*Edit*

Nevermind. I couldn't install MobTracker unless I removed MobAlert. happy

MobAlert = MobTracker I renamed it so it would be more consistant with LootTracker.

Map HUD can be any size you'd like, you just have to set its size and position in the XML file(The native resolution is 510x510 for the maps, but on small screens this takes up over half the display, so I ship with it set at 255). I'm not finished with the HUD system yet by any stretch of the imagination.

Awesome idea! I'll download it ASAP.
This might be an idea for your plugin if you are feeling froggy and have some time to kill. I've always wanted someone to do a plugin or something that figures out mob resistances/attacks by collecting data from clients and then compiling it to show the best attack based on what others have tried. The COD databases are years out of date and either they don't have access to the mob data like they used to or they just don't care enough to update them.

Anyway, it's something to think about. Thanks again for the sweet plugin!

Found an installation bug.
If I choose any installation path other than the default it results in a <NO DLL> error in Decal.
Workaround is to manually edit the path in your registry for the MobTracker installation by going here "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Decal\Plugins" and looking through the keys until you see the one for Mob Tracker then change the "Path" string to match where you actually installed it. Restart Decal and it should work.

How often is the server data updated? I notice that things I'm finding aren't showing up. Example: I walked out of my house and found a Warlock of The Blood almost on my doorstep but when I look it up on the offline map it doesn't show one anywhere near my house.

That explains why I was getting the No DLL, all my plugins go in a different path. Probably explain all my other problems too, as in i can't use the Map HUD, XML file name change and the plugin name in decal list.

I'll play with the setup project and see if I can fix the path issue. I thought I already had it set up so it would adjust it to the setup path, but apparently, I do not.

I have to regenerate the maps based on the spawn data and I do that whenever I get the chance(I'll update them when I get home tonight, now that I've started to see some data accumulate). I created a program to generate the maps, but frankly, .Net's image capabilities leave much to be desired, so I use Ifranview and a special plugin to convert and compress the images. (This is how I reduce the entire map data to only a few hundred bytes, the best .Net can do is over ten times that size). It takes about two hours to generate all 1000+ maps and upload them to the web site(most of that time is compressing the images) for the plugin and offline viewer to use. I'll see what I can do about automating that process and schedule it to run on a regular basis.

Collecting mass data in an efficient manner is my specialty, so I'll seriously think about doing that vulnerability data plugin, but it has to come after LootTracker, which is already in progress.

Yew, another dumb idea brought to you from Immortalbob...

Dungeon ID's.

Basicly, if a critter is found inside a dungeon, the dungeon ID is recorded and uploaded with the MoB data. This way, we can see what dungeons house what mobs. ACmaps.com keeps all its maps named the dungeon ID, so it might not be that hard to pull off.

The old LootTracker had something along those lines. I'll see if I can replicate that.

Update:

Maps and moblist updated.* (1012 mob maps generated from 180,000 spawn points.)
Large screenshots relinked on web site
Installer fixed so that non-default paths will not show <no dll>

*=You dont need to do anything to get the update. Next time you log in a character or use the offline viewer the new mobs will be in the list. The maps themselves will show in game immediately the next time you select a mob in the dropdown, without having to log off. (i.e. you only need to logout for new mobs to show)

indeed awesome..thank you very much ! i do believe the map needs to be slightly larger tho for the off line viewer or possibly make it to where u can resize it.. id think this would actually work great if it could be added to/with dereth explorer 8).

You wanna talk about large maps? I started out with the full map using the high resolution Dereth map at 2041x2041. Since the spawn map was the same size, and had resolution SO tight that you could pinpoint the EXACT spot on the map where the cow spawns in tou-tou. Sounds great, right? It was, until I found out it took 5 minutes per map to generate and that my resulting map size, for only a fraction of the number of maps I have now, took 8.9GB of space on my hard drive...if I have distributed the map at that size, even compressed, the plugin download would be 14MB in size and each map would be > 1MB. That would certainly not be cool for my server or our bandwidth.

I could allow the stretching of the maps easy enough, but the native map resolution is still only 510x510, so you arent gaining anything by doing so. Also note that each 'spawn point' is actually a 4 pixel block to increase visability. I tried a single pixel, but it was very hard to see on the map.

I could provide a few individual maps at max resolution on the site, but which ones are best to provide?

I was under the impression that the offline version was a single map and the dots were drawn on it based on data received from the server when a mob was selected. Guess I was thinking about it wrong.
Although very cool, I don't use the online browser. I like the offline one better and just alt-tab out to it when I need to look something up.
This plugin rocks! It's already helped me hunt down several mobs that I wasn't sure about! Thanks again!

Just a quick note.

One change I'm making to all the It! plugins is to no longer store 'dynamic' information (files that get updated, etc.) in the install directory, but rather in one of the user document directories (either all users or individual user)

This will become very important in the future for Vista compatibility, so you might want to make those changes early in the project.

Also make sure that if you are using the registry, you do not use HLKM except for registering your plugin. That way only the install will need to be run 'elevated'

Arrow color and alpha can already be set in the XML file right now. You just have to know ARGB colorspace.

There will be /MOB commands to set them in game using easier descriptions. (i.e. /MOB SET ARROWCOLOR BLUE and /MOB SET ARROWALPHA 50)

I probably will not clutter the interface and force more graphics resource usage for setting these things.

The D3dService call I use to add the arrows does not have size or scaling as a parameter, only color/alpha. I'd have to dig around with the D3D object post-creation. I'll keep this in mind, but its going to have to wait until I take care of some other requests first.
