Just put the Red Hat Fedora Core 2 installation on my system, installed Win X, KDE, and Gnome interfaces cause I wasn't sure which one I'd like, but now for the life of me I can't find where to switch interface types ... lol

Anyone know?

Well, one more question since I brought up Linux.

I got the Red Hat distribution after seeing about 200 different flavors.

Was just wondering if anyone has any opinions on some of the different releases?

I never really got in to Linux much, but decided to give it a shot. Closest I've ever used was UNIX on a VAX system. No GUI, no bells and whistles, one color - army-jeep-green.

WINE still has some problems with AC, but it appears to be very close. Probably in a few months...

Why are you using Fedora 2? The latest release of Fedora is Fedora Core 6. You should probably download the latest, or you're going to have problems finding precompiled packages for the things you want.

Oh yeah, once you've installed FC6 be sure to do 'yum update' to upgrade everything. There is already a newer kernel for it, I think.

I used the FC 2 release installation as it was the set of CD's I had on hand, and since it's 4 CD's for the DL I went with that then ran all the updates overnight to get it caught up.

I love this, first web browser I've ever used that had a built in spell checker... lol

Create a file in your home dir called ~/.xinitrc and put this in it

#!/bin/sh
xterm &
exec fvwm

Change fvwm to whatever window manager you want to use. Use the startx command to start it in your shell. Heres more info if you need it. http://xwinman.org/basics.php

I prefer Ubuntu linux personally. I use it in my other machines that I dont use for games. http://www.ubuntu.com/

I'm pretty sure WINE has a ways to go before they can do DX 9.0c or whatever it is now, so your screwed if you want to play AC with it.

Firefox 2.0 has a built in spell checker too btw.

First off, thanks to VI for the heads up on FC6. I took the time to DL it and upgraded my install and the differences are as clear as day and night.

Not using it for AC, I have a client that uses it so felt the need to brush up.

I've taken a very negative view on Ubuntu ever since it was discovered that the installer put the root password plaintext into a logfile readable by everyone. That's some security model.

Gonna look in to this, cause someone got WoW to work so I can't see why AC shouldn't.

It's a different program, and different programs behave differently. Plus, a huge amount of effort went into making WoW work.

WoW was also released for OS X which is built on a BSD kernal and runs I believe in OpenGL, which means it is easier to port to a full BSD or *nix OS than something that is only DirectX based.
